Cyberpunk 2077 Has Been Delayed - But it's Not the End of the World
Happy New Year everyone! 2020 is full to the brim of exciting new games, and old remasters, that I can’t wait to play. Games like Animal Crossing, The Last of Us Part 2, and Watch Dogs Legion. In my opinion, 2019 was a disappointing year for games. Borderlands 3, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, and The Blair Witch, were all huge failures. I found myself replaying old favourites rather than spending money on a new title.
But that was last year. I have hope that 2020 will be the year of great games. However, we are off to a rocky start.
The rumours are unfortunately true – Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed. This was a real blow to many in the community as Cyberpunk is the most anticipated game of the year. It promises to be a massive open-world RPG, that allows players to customise their character however they want. Since its amazing 2019 E3 presentation, I have been eagerly awaiting more news and game play videos.
In this presentation it was announced that the game would be releasing on the 16th of April 2020. This date has been pushed to the 17th of September. (Which just so happens to be my birthday). The co-founders and heads of CD Project Red, Marcin Iwinska and Adam Badowski, said:
“We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there is still work to be done.”
Although delays can be frustrating, it is usually for the best. I would rather wait five extra months for a game and have it be everything I expected it to be, than play a buggy, glitchy mess that was pushed out just to meet a deadline. Over the past couple of years, we have seen developers push out a game early and spend the next few months fixing it with huge patches. (I’m looking at you Fallout 76). Its frustrating for players who have paid full price for a title.
Developers are now realising that this method is failing. Communication between devs and players have become more open and honest. I am glad that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed, because I want it to reach its full potential.
I’m almost positive these extra months of waiting will be worth it.
