Will we Ever get Dragon Age 4?
Updated: Jul 17, 2019
On December 6th, 2018, the Dragon Age community was shook as a teaser trailer for Dragon Age 4 was released. We have heard very little about the new instalment since Inquisition’s success in 2014. It is safe to say that the whole community is on tenterhooks to hear any little bit of news we can about when we can expect the new title. Dragon Age: Inquisition was such a success and is a much loved game by many, we are left on a cliff-hanger as Solas tells us his plan to destroy our world to bring his back. We had the option to tell him we wanted to help, or tell him we would stop him. If the new Dragon Age is going to follow in the same theme as the previous titles, we should expect a new main character in a whole new story and setting. In the teaser trailer we hear Solas’ voice saying “So, you have found me at last, I suspect you have questions”. This is a good indicator that we will still be following the story of Solas. Assuming we ever get a DA4.
There has been lots of speculation and rumours around BioWare and their making of DA. In May 2017, Alexis Kennedy revealed that he was working on a part of the games story in an interview with Eurogamer. He said that his part of the story was “well-segregated from other parts of the game.”
It has also been suggested that Dragon Age was sidelined as more people were pulled to work on Anthem. This is a good indication that the game is still in its very early days.
With any news that is released about DA4 in this early stage it is important to take it with a pinch of salt. Nothing is set in stone and everything is subject to change. For example, we heard rumours that there would be ‘live’ elements like in Anthem. This has been debunked (or changed) by developers as Casey Hudson tweeted that any ‘live’ sections would only be after the main storyline.
Although it could be at least another two years until we get our hands on a new Dragon Age game, we will remain cautiously optimistic. In the main time we have our 30th playthrough of Dragon Age inquisition to complete.
